St.Clair's Falls

It is situated in 3km west from Talawakele town on Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District. The Falls derived its name from a near by tea estate. St.Clair's Fall is 80m high and hence 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. St.Clair's Falls comprises two falls called "Maha Ella" (Sinhalese "The Greater Fall") and "Kuda Ella" (Sinhalese "The Lesser Fall") which is 50m high created by a tributary of Kotmale Oya



St.clair is a very beautiful place. This waterfall has large amount of water. There fore it increases demand and beauty of this waterfall. St.clair is a western name. Before 1948 AD Sri Lanka was govern by British government. They used to grow tea in upcountry lands and export it to UK. In that time they hippies about this waterfall and place the name like this.

Many places of This region has nice and big tea estates. Thalawakele, Dayagama, Hatton, Great western, Hillwood, Blackwood, Horton plains, and various tea factories. You can visit these tea factories as well. Tamil workers are work in tea estates. This workers have political party called Sri Lanka workers congress and it's controlled by Mr. Thondaman.

Thalawakele has nice railway station and special points are also at there. Thalawakele rail way is narrow road and in little distance train travels up to several kilometers.

Devon falls

Devon Falls is a waterfall in Sri Lanka, situated 6 km west of Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya District on A7 highway. The falls is named after a pioneer English coffee planter called Devon, whose plantation is situated nearby the falls. The Waterfall is 97 meters high and ranked 19th highest in the Island.

Devon waterfalls of Sri Lanka is one of very beautiful waterfall of Sri Lanka and which is situated at Thalawakale of Sri Lanka. This falls is high above 1159m from sea level. This falls at between Thalawakele and Hatton and situated at 20mile place. This waterfall is height about 98m. We have to walk about kilometer to visit this waterfalls.

Devon waterfall is at Dimbula area of Thalawakele and very closed to St. Clair waterfall. There is a Kovil is at near Devon falls which is for warship of Tamil workers of Tea plantation. There is a bungalow which was made by British governor at 1923 in front of Devon falls. Several hotels and residential places near Devon waterfalls.

Visit Devon waterfall is some what easy task because Devon waterfalls at closed to Nuwaraeliya Hatton Main road. If you want to visit Devon waterfall when you travel to Nuwaraeliya please come in Hatton Thalawakele Nanuoya Nuwaraeliya road. Then you can visit both St. Clair and Devon waterfalls and visit tea estates tea bungalows and also tea factories.
Devon is very beautiful waterfall and don't dirt this place.

Dunhinda falls

Dunhinda waterfall is big waterfall of Sri Lanka and which is at Soranathota place of Badulla Sri Lanka. Dunhinda waterfall is made by jump water with high gap of Badulu river. This water ways started with Uma Oya, Hal Oya and various water ways. Dunhinda is at Badulla - Mahiyangana road and there are about 10km from Badulla town. Dunhinda waterfalls at about 1km from main road. This path is to be walk. First you can see little Dunhinda waterfalls which is at downside of main waterfall.

Dunhinda waterfall is one of beautiful waterfall of Sri Lanka. Downside of Dunhinda there are three main water Walleyes call Randenigala, Rantambe and Randenigala. Uma oya direct to Rantambe and other two Walleyes from Mahaweli river from Kandy. Uma Oya starts at worldsend and it travels Ambewela, Nuwaraeliya, Uva Paranagama, Welimada, Attampitiya, haliela, Badulla and end with Mahaweli river.

In several years ago Badulla town is a valley. In those time there was no Dunhinda waterfalls in this place. The very big vine is blocked the way of Badulu river and there for Badulla city become big Valley. The man called Ranhawadi Dhuraya tried to remove this vine. How ever whiting several months he could cut the big vine and he was died in slept. After all the water stoked in Badulla town was flow down in this place and build a nice waterfall called Dunhinda.
Bathing in Dunhinda waterfall is very danger because downside of the fall is very deep and it contains stones. Dunhinda is very famous waterfall in world after showing the drama of "Dunhinda Addara".

Duhinda Falls, Sri Lanka is located 5 km north of Badulla on the Badulla - Taldena Road. The falls are the highest on the Badulu Oya River that flows on the mountain border of the Uva highlands and eventually surrenders itself to the Mahaweli Ganga. It is said to be the most awesome waterfall of the country. Dunhinda undoubtedly is considered a plume is Badulla and Sri Lanka’s crown because of its spectacular down pour. Its water smashes on the bouldered surface with high velocity and falls down into a large pool. This gives a look of a vapor waterfall from where the name Duhinda has been derived and the amazing beauty of this 210 feet high fall lies in this very fact.

To reach the Duhinda Falls one has to travel 5 Kilometer from Badulla by the Mahiyangana stretch, and trek another 2 kilometer from the main road while he enjoys the beauty of the Badulu Oya valley. The Dunhinda Falls is a paid admission spot. Very near to the fall there is a presence of an old cave which once was haven of Veddas from Bintenne
This fall is steeped in history. The area was once inhabited by indigenous people - the Veddha tribe. During the time of King Rajasinhe, a giant fern got stuck at the top of the fall, between two mountains. This acted as a dam, which resulted in the flooding of Badulla town. Seeing the gravity of the situation, the king entrusted the task of clearing the sluice to a person named 'Ranhavadidaraya'. After toiling for three months he managed to clear the water and the town re-emerged.

Diyaluma falls

Diyaluma ,on the Poonagala Oya rever off the Koslanda- Wellawaya road is another spectacular sight spilling over a straight rock wall. 559 ft in height. Diyaluma is often rated as Sri Lanka’s highest water falls, upstaging Bambarakanda.It is 13 km from Wellawaya town and 6 km from Koslanda in the Hills and seen like a soft veil, is seen from the Balangoda – Wellawaya highway too.Legend says that Gods, seeing the heart break of a prince whose runaway romance ended in the death of his sweetheart whom he had tried haul over the Diyaluma precipice, created this beautiful cascade to weep forever in the wilderness

Diyaluma Waterfall is Sri Lankan No 1: most beautiful waterfall and which is situated at Koslanda. Koslanda is situated between Beragala and Wellawaya. Beragala is junction of Badulla Colombo main road. Another way to Diyaluma waterfall via Poonagala from Bandarawela. Poonagala place is very famous to tea estates and Tamil people. Diyaluma waterfall is Third highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It is high about 171m. Visit Diyaluma is very easy because Diyaluma waterfall is at main road. Most tourists are like very much to visit this waterfall.

Diyaluma, also known as Diya Haluma can be seen if one stops on his way to Haputale and travels by taking a roundabout road. Diyaluma meaning Watery light amasses its water from Poonagala Oya and stands tall to a height of 559 feet.

The tall and thin "Diyaluma" waterfall decants and courses its way to Kirindi Oya, beneath a highway bridge that leads fro Beragala to Wellawaya. Though Bambarakande falls is taller than this, the Diyaluma often gives a feeling of being a more grandiloquent fall in the islet. It is indeed a striking sight to watch when the tall Diyaluma slops down a straight rock wall.

Rainfall occurs in large volume in Sri Lanka and the pour of this waterfall is very heavy during the rainy season. Its geographical location across the Highways that traverses the Hill Country to the Plains is a sight worth watching.

Sri Lanka is blessed with over one hundred waterfalls. The tallest is the Bambarakande Falls which cascades down 263 metres like liquid light. It is only four miles away from the Colombo-Bandarawela road in a forest glade, but it is not visited often, though well worth the trip.

Travel to this place is not easy than other waterfalls of Sri Lanka because this fall is not at near the main road. If you want to travel this there are two ways. But one of them is not good and other one is good. First you come to Kalupahana which is situated on the Balangoda-Haputale road. And turn Udaweria side from Kalupahana junction and come 5 kilometers along that way and you can meet Bambarakanda waterfall. Another way is come from Horton plains or Ohiya. There is 15 km from Ohiya to Bambarakanda falls.

When you travel from Ohiya place first you meet nice tea estate called Udaweria Estate. It's very nice and then you can visit a place which you can visit nice sceneries from it. On clear days you can see long gaps and long distance of area. Some had seen sea also. Sometimes you may not believe it but that's true. You have to visit another place to visit. It called hill safari. You can go on a Safari with there. It is a lodge and there are 4 km from Ohiya to it. In evening you can see only mist.
To travel to Bambarakanda falls from Ohiya is not easy. Because that way is some what damaged. But when you go there in this way definitely you cant believe your eyes. Before travel that way first you should find four wheel vehicle. Near the Bambarakanda falls there is another fall. It's also beautiful

Bambarakanda Ella pours like as if light has been liquefied and its barrier has been left loose to outflow. The fall is only four miles distant from the Colombo-Bandarawela route that passes in the form of a clear tract of road from the midsection of forest. Being a wet seasonal waterfall the Bambarakanda accelerates in gratifying speed mostly during the monsoon months of September to March. It is truly spectacular sight to see the Bambarakanda break into an overwhelming waterspout in these months. This waterfall is even taller than the famous Diyaluma falls which in itself is 559 feet in height.
Though minor, the road that leads to Sri Lanka’s Bambarakanda is via Haputale and Kalupahana. The latter is 22 km from Balangoda or 32 km from Wellawaya. Further 3km from Kalupahana along a narrow stretch through Weerakoongama you can reach the famous gorgeous waterfall. The most striking feature of the picturesque fall is the pattern of the entire watercourse swaying to and fro because of the strong winds blowing across it.

The white flow amidst wilderness is a sight worth watching. Bambarakanda Ella of Sri Lanka is a kind of natural beauty that touches our inner eye and flashes in our minds for a long period of time. This stream of water is a gem embedded by Nature in Sri Lanka for people to enjoy its aesthetic beauty.
